The Study is a warm, cozy room done in hardwood with a plaid carpet and a fireplace. A fine wooden desk stands before a stone window; a Macintosh computer sits proudly atop it. Outside, waves crash upon a beach.
The Scribe uses this room to work on his writing and to pursue his other interests.

About the Scribe...

In May 1996, my Scribe graduated from Connecticut College, where he majored in European History (for which he won distinction) and English. Afterwards, he rode off into the sunset and ran into the Pacific Ocean outside of San Francisco. Undeterred, he set up shop there and married the woman of his dreams. He is also an ordained minister of the Universal Life Church.

[Blue Ribbon]Stop Net Censorship I firmly believe that any form of censorship, on any medium, is wrong.

As long as we're on the subject, try visiting the Coalition Against Unsolicited Commercial Email. "Spam," or unwanted email solicitation, has become the online problem of the new milennium. Spam is universally considered to be the height of rudeness by internet users; yet, more people send out mass email advertising every day. Most spam involves fraudilent businesses or pornography, and no legitimate business uses spam. If you should receive spam, delete it immediately. Do not reply, as it will tell the sender that there is someone reading it at the other end, and will encourage them to send more fraudulent email.

[Paper]National Do Not Call Registry If you're tired of telemarketers, there's finally a do-not-call list. If you are receiving unwanted solicitations, file a complaint with the FCC.

[Paper]Opt Out PreScreen will stop endless credit card solicitations in the mail. EcoCycle stops delivery of unwanted phone books. The DMA Consumer Site helps with other solicitations.

[Paper]United States Constitution Read it... you might be surprised what it really says!

[Folies-Bergere]The WebMuseum This is a fun educational site for artists and non-artists alike. I also recommend Elfwood and DeviantArt, two galleries of amateur fantasy and speculative art.

[Starry Night]My favorite contemporary artists include:
Ericka Baque | Myriam Benabdallah | Clyde Caldwell | Jeff Easley | Larry Elmore | Amy Hanna | Keith Parkinson | Norma Peters | Natalia Pierandrei | Sandara | Sue-Chan | Yarin Gal | Bence Hadju

[Gypsy]PrimalX has lovely photographs, as does the Boston Globe.

[Paper]Mike Keefe of the Denver Post is my Scribe's favorite cartoonist.

[British]The Flag Institute My Scribe and I have long been students of vexilology - the study of flags. Recommended is the World Flag Database Index; for the history of Old Glory, visit History of the Stars and Stripes.

[U.S.S.Enterprise]Blastr Sci-Fi News What's afoot in the world of science fiction media?

[Paper]Myers-Briggs Personality Types help us understand different ways of thinking. My Scribe is an ENTJ - Extrovert, Intuitive, Thinking, Judging. ("Judging" does not mean judgmental - it means he evaluates decisions by a moral standard.) Understanding different personalities helps us realize that others are neither foolish nor wrong because they have a different perspective.

[Paper]Computer Stupidities This web site has laugh-out-loud-funny stories of clueless computer users. Those with a sick sense of humor will enjoy the Darwin Awards. The advent of technology allowing users to dictate text messages to their smart phones has led to fall-over-laughing goofs, cataloged at DamnYouAutoCorrect.com.
